CNBC Million Dollar Portfolio Challenge – Get Your Bonus Bucks
It’s that time of year again. CNBC has begun to run advertising promos for its Million Dollar Portfolio Challenge. We’ll be doing a few things as we did last year such as; posting the daily Bonus Bucks answers, gathering bloggers together to have them post their contest picks, as well as showing you our own portfolio and maybe suggesting a few positions. Last year, we finished in the top 1% and finished with a rank of 1,458, maybe we’ll do even better than that this time around. This year’s contest begins on May 12 and lasts until July 18 and allows contestants to invest in stocks with a market capitalization of at least $500 million and a one hundred day average trading volume of at least 10,000 shares as of the end of trading on May 9. The rules are the same for the most part. The new twist, however, is that each contestant will receive $1,000,000 and out of that total, $100,000 is available for currency trading. In addition to that, participants will be able to score extra CNBC Bucks, $2,000 to be exact, for each correct answer to a daily trivia question. As for the prizes, CNBC has outdone itself this time. In addition to the overall grand prize of half a million and a runner up cash award of half that sum, there are some pretty cool weekly prizes that include; World Series Tickets, a Jamaica and Turks and Caicos getaway, an Annika Sorenstam Golf Outing, a weekend in a Bentley, a seat at the World Series of Poker, and last but certainly not least, Super Bowl tickets.

Will you be offering the Weekly Bonus Trivia Question answers, done of Fridays? I couldn’t find yours at the end of week 1.
Iam registered and I read that someone took a short position. Can we sell short and if so how do you set that up?
Why does it take so long to make a trade. Usually over 24 hours.. By the time a trade is executed you have lost thousands and end up buy on the high side, and missing out on the move.??????
How do I do short? and can I trade intraday? Can I set stop loss?

I haven’t figured out how to sell a stock
I have had trouble wiyh this contest since the very first week, when I could not get my portfolios completed before Monday afternoon. That put me in a day short.
Then I found that not ALL my transactions were being handled in a timely manner, according to their rules.
Now, this week’s bonuses are not being added before the next trading day, so that puts me behind one day of trading.
They sure got this one screwed up.
IT MAKES ME WONDER WHETHER THEY HAVE THEIR WINNERS ALREADY PICKED!!!!!

I’ve read the blog complaints and I don’t understand why anyone is having a problem if they have read the rules.
I have an older imac computer that ive upgraded with the tiger 10.04 software and i’m not able to trade currencies. I changed my cookie settings as they explained but my system does not support xlm?
I am very, very frustrated. Beginning on Monday 6-2 my five portfolios have vanished. When I log on I receive the welcome “Clement”. I also get the message that I have zero of five portfolios .Meaning, I suppose that I am still registered. I answer the trivia questions and I am told that I am being credited with money. I have E-Mailed CNBC, Squawk Box etc. and gotten zero satisfaction. So what am I supposed to do? Quit? I have been in this contest before and never had any problems. I can’t thank you enough for the answers to the trivia questions. Looking back I wish I had found this site earlier….it would have saved me a lot of time…not to mention the fact that it would have also saved me from answering several of them wrong.

Very disapointed with all the bonus buck problems in my account for example yesterday 6/12/2008 i answered correctly all 6 questions for 12,000 bonus bucks, i have 5 portfolio’s named Calypso, Financials, Insurance, Energy, and Pharma, my cash intraday positions today 6/13/2008 are respectively (pre-transaction): $0.00, $12,059, $9,476, $0.00, and $204.25.
someone PLEASE tell me why my Calypso, Insurance, Energy, and Pharma accounts have less than 12,000 bucks available for trading?, Either there is a rule i am missing OR something is gravely screwed up. I complained to CNBC before on this, not sure if they ever credited my account w/ bonus bucks but they did email me but never really addressed the issue
right now not real pleased, will emil this to CNBC and try to update the board if i find anything out, last year it there were a number of issues that made the news, maybe this is yet another one

Hello, I have been in the contest since May 16th or so, and when I look at my portfolio it’s showing I am up on all sectors,approximately $135,000+ on each one, but when I look at the stats it doesn’t show the total amount, granted I have never played the stocks, but I’m learning alot that’s for sure. I’m having a blast! This past week I had to take a vacation and lost out on doing my stock and trivia questions, which that is another question, can you go back and put in answers for trivia? I get behind, I live on west coast so I have to be up on the time and sometimes I get busy and don’t get my trivia in. I hope to continue with the contest, hope you have it again! Please just let me understand totals of all sectors, alittle confused! Thank You so much, Sandy Sears

Wow, looks like we were neck-in-neck … on 7/16 I was 125th and 132nd. Nice having two portfolios doing well to try different strategies here at the end! Thursday I up pretty big in one and down in the other, so maybe there is still an outside chance for me. But I wouldn’t know b/c CNBC isn’t posting the rankings any more! What is up with that? Sure would like to know how I am fairing going into the last day … for the contest and the week!
Anyway, it has been fun. And thanks for your efforts with the bonus bucks and options reports!

i like to change my stocks daily but it took so long to re allocate that i lost on the gains by the next day stocks were down and that is when my stocks appeared so i couldn’t get ahead. i picked the same stocks on my personnel account and i was up over 2 million i lost 600,000. with the fantasy stocks. It doesn’t seem fair.
